Artist Statement

I was born and raised in Cyprus, a tiny yet beautiful Mediterranean island enriched in with natural beauty and culture. Growing up, the beach was a constant presence, leading me to develop a deep spiritual love, appreciation, and understanding of nature as my ultimate escape. With this came the artistic influence of the nude female form and ocean imagery/motifs which became a constant in my works. However, upon moving to London to further my education, I was immediately consumed by unease, as nature was no longer a constant in my life. Instead, I found myself surrounded by the polar opposite – a massive, fast-paced, polluted concrete jungle full of opportunity, vastly different from my island life.

After working with shells brought from Cyprus as well as the evil eye symbol. I created prints which then lead to experimenting with collaging using Photography, digital drawing as well as watercolour. Using these as a base, I introduced snapshots of figures centred around beach imagery; using oil bars to paint the figures to create a visceral representation. Scale is crucial to my artistic process, as I aim to create an immersive experience for viewers, transporting them into my world and experience.

My studio work continues to focus on this theme and evolve this series. This represents not only my home but also my personal experience of it – a loud, maximalistic, and colourful exploration.
